Launch of the COAST-SCAPES project
The COAST-SCAPES project has officially launched under the Horizon Europe programme, bringing together an international consortium of 31 partner organisations to advance climate resilience in coastal landscapes worldwide.
Coordinated by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the four-year project (2025-2029) aims to develop systemic solutions that reconnect land, coast, and sea systems under increasing climate pressures. With a strong focus on nature-based solutions (NbS), digital tools, and innovative governance models, COAST-SCAPES will help coastal communities better anticipate, manage, and adapt to risks such as biodiversity loss, water stress, and extreme climate events.
Through demonstration sites across Europe and beyond, partners will co-design resilience pathways with local communities and authorities. By combining scientific research, modelling tools, early warning systems, and participatory approaches, the project seeks to deliver scalable strategies that link science, policy, and society.
Over the next four years, COAST-SCAPES will work to transform the way coastal systems are understood and managed, contributing to more sustainable and resilient coastal futures.
