COAST-SCAPES presented at the Maritime Hub 2025 in Catalonia

On 18th of November 2025, the fifth edition of the Maritime Hub 2025 brought together key actors from the marine sector and the blue economy to advance sustainability along the Catalan coast.

Organised by BlueNetCat and the General Directorate of Maritime Policy and Fisheries of the Government of Catalonia, the event served as a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration. This year’s programme focused on three thematic pillars: blue innovation and entrepreneurship, nature-based solutions for coastal resilience, and BlueTech, including artificial intelligence and digital applications in the maritime sector.

COAST-SCAPES project coordinator Prof. Manel Grifoll participated in the session dedicated to nature-based resilience. During his presentation, he highlighted how the integration of biology and engineering can strengthen coastal adaptation strategies and mitigate climate-related risks. He also presented the objectives of the COAST-SCAPES project, underlining the vulnerability of the Ebro Delta, one of the project’s Replicating Pilots.

Recalling the severe impacts of Storm Gloria in January 2020, Prof. Grifoll emphasised the urgent need for systemic, science-based approaches that enhance coastal stability, while preserving ecological and socio-economic functions.

Stay tuned for more updates as COAST-SCAPES continues to engage with key stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
