COAST-SCAPES at the International Climate Resilience Conference
The International Climate Resilience Conference (iCARE) took place from the 26th to the 29th of October in Munich, Germany. Hosted by COAST-SCAPES’ partner organisation, Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, the event brought together leading scholars, policymakers, community leaders, and practitioners to discuss climate resilience strategies.
By addressing gaps, achievements, innovations, and best practices in climate resilience, this conference aims to provide a platform for collaboration on climate resilience studies, to establish a community for resilience researchers, and to promote resilience thinking instead of risk thinking in the narrative of climate change. In total, 17 sessions on multiple topics around climate resilience were organised, and over 200 oral and poster presentations were shared during discussions.
The COAST-SCAPES initiative was featured in the conference in a session focusing on innovative strategies for climate-resilient coastal development. Project coordinator Dr. Manel Grifoll (UPC - BarcelonaTech), together with project members Pierpaolo Campostrini (CORILA), Joanna Staneva (Hereon), Maria Ionescu (GeoEcoMar), and Julia Martinez (FNCA), moderated the session, covering topics such as coastal hydrodynamics, nature-based solutions, and climate resilience strategies and highlighting the strategic role of one of the project’s core pilots, the Venice lagoon.
The discussions paved the way for future research and policy efforts aimed at enhancing climate resilience and supporting sustainable coastal development.
