COAST-SCAPES attended a workshop organised by the BELICH project

As part of the BELICH project, COAST-SCAPES was presented at a scientific workshop held in Murcia, Spain. Mar Menor, one of the three COAST-SCAPES core pilots, hosted the workshop organised by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC) within the framework of the BELICH project, which is responsible for monitoring and developing the Mar Menor lagoon models.

The goal of this meeting was to progress and coordinate the creation of the first detailed model that links the Mar Menor lagoon with its surrounding area, a model that can both show the complex processes affecting the lagoon ecosystem and predict how the ecosystem will react to extreme events or specific management actions.

The initiative, part of the Framework of Priority Actions for the Recovery of the Mar Menor, took place at the Murcia Oceanographic Center of the IEO-CSIC on February 10 and 11, earlier this year. It brought together research and technical staff from more than ten research organisations and specialised entities, including universities, IEO-CSIC oceanographic centers, the Ministry for Ecological Transition (MITECO), and companies with extensive experience in environmental modeling and land management. Representatives of the COAST-SCAPES project were the New Water Culture Foundation (FNCA) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC)
